FoodQuest
The following samples are spec materials for a theoretical single-player RPG video game based on FoodQuest, an original tabletop RPG setting made for the Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition system. Inspired by pre-modern world cultures and populated by anthropomorphic foods, FoodQuest is a niche universe combining culinary puns with sword & sorcery storytelling.
(In other words: combine two cups Sid Meier’s Civilization, one and a half cups Top Chef, one tbs. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and a pinch of Chowder in a food processor. Pulse until just combined; serve with a B.A. in History.)

Creative Process
This theoretical game assumes a similar playstyle to single player, open-world, party management RPGs like the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series, or The Outer Worlds, with character customization more in line with Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition.
The player progresses through a main quest line across discrete zones, bringing along a party of up to three other characters from a cast of recruitable companion NPCs. Combat and quest completion confer experience points, which both the player and companion NPCs may use to level up their ability scores and class abilities.
The game’s main narrative is influenced by player choice, which in turn affects NPC approval of the player. Significantly high or low approval gates can trigger special conversation cutscenes with each NPC.
A player-facing guide to the world of Bento, with entries on the major geography, political groups, deities, and historical events.
Short character bios for a sample roster of companion NPCs. Marketing text separate from in-game use (ie. not player-facing lore entries).
